Union Park Rocket Slide After several weeks of being closed for extensive painting, the rocket slide was re-opened in late August. The freshly painted slide closely replicates the original look when it was first placed in the park in the late ‘60’s or early 1970’s. For a look at some advertisements which enticed the Des Moines Park & Recreation Department to consider this “modern” play equipment click here!

The sunshine, lack of snow and warm temperatures just made it seem like Carousel riding time - And lots of others thought so too!   Over 1000 free rides were given on Saturday, January 7th from 1-3 p.m. Congratulations to all you first time January Riders!   The animals were so happy to see your smiles!
